Mitsubishi is planning to launch an automatic version of the Pajero Sport in the sub-continent to boost its sales. Preferred by many for its ruggedness and butch charm, the Pajero Sport has been doing fairly well compared to the other cars from the Japanese manufacturer. The Pajero Sport gets a 5-Speed automatic transmission with the same engine (the one in the Indian Pajero Sport) in Thailand and Mitsubishi is expected to bring the same engine-transmission combination to India. The company has announced that the automatic Pajero Sport is scheduled to be manufactured at Hindustan Motors’ Tiruvallur facility near Chennai. The company has further cleared that the automatic version of the Pajero Sport will hit the Indian market in autumn. Interestingly, the other major player in the segment, Toyota Fortuner has been doing exceptionally well with the automatic version of the Fortuner. In fact, Toyota’s focus on selling the automatic version can be realized from Toyota’s dealerships that command a greater waiting period for the manual 2WD version than the automatic version.
