Giants activate closer Melancon, demote Tomlinson The Giants activated closer Mark Melancon before Wednesday’s series finale against the Dodgers. To make room on the roster they optioned infielder Kelby Tomlinson to Triple-A Sacramento. Melancon has been on the disabled list since May 9 with a strained pronator muscle in his right forearm. “He’s adamant he’s ready to go and he’s our closer,” manager Bruce Bochy said.
