I met Ryan at his palacial 7 story house overlooking SF. He has a pool and jacuzzi in his living room. He sold a company for $169M *before* he started at HBS. He also wrote a book. In person he's disarming and humble. I overheard him telling someone he worked at a startup called iContact. No, he didn't smirk. This essay made me cringe too, but Ryan's not a bad guy. He's just excited. And for what it's worth, he was already a head and shoulders above his classmates before he got there.
