Dolphins will fill hole at TE position The Dolphins are acquiring TE Julius Thomas for a late-round 2017 draft pick. (Armando Salguero on Twitter) FF Today's Take: Thomas reportedly wants to reunite with coach Adam Gase and agreed to restructure his contract upon completion of the trade. The trade can't be set in stone until March 9th. Thomas should find himself in starting role but a couple years of battling injuries and inconsistent play should make fantasy owners leery. He'll be on the TE2 radar.

Giants clearing cap space The team released popular wide receiver Victor Cruz, the team announced Tuesday, marking the end of one of the more entertaining and improbable careers in Giants history. The team also released running back Rashad Jennings. Cruz was due to earn $6.4 million in base salary in 2017 and $7.4 million in 2018 on his contract with the Giants. Jets void option for 2nd year Ryan Fitzpatrick officially is a free agent. Again. The contract the quarterback signed with the Jets last July was voided Friday, making him eligible to hit the free-agent market March 9. Fitzpatrick, who turned 34 in November, technically signed a two-year contract after a five-month holdout last offseason. But the deal contained language that allowed the Jets to void the deal five days after Super Bowl LI, essentially making it a one-year, $12-million contract. (Newsday.com) FF Today's Take: The Jets will take a $5 million hit against the salary cap. Fitzpatrick had a disastrous 2016 season throwing 17 interceptions and only 12 TDs in 14 games. The Jets are a quarterback needy team with Christian Hackenberg, Bryce Petty and Geno Smith currently on the roster. The may look to free agency for a veteran stopgap in 2017.

After contemplating retirement for the past month, Carson Palmer informed the team on Thursday that he will play this upcoming season, his fifth with the Cardinals. (Arizona Republic) FF Today's Take: It was a longshot for Palmer to retire, especially after Larry Fitzgerald announced last week that he would be back in 2017.
