On Monday, Mark Saxon of ESPN.com reported St. Louis Cardinals outfielder Dexter Fowler did not regret comments he previously made criticizing President Donald Trump's executive order banning travel from seven Muslim countries despite the backlash he received. I'm always going to care for my family, and if a question is asked out of concern, I'm going to answer the question truthfully, Fowler said, per Saxon. It's not to hurt anybody. It's my perspective. It's unfortunate that people think of things that way, but I believe they're sensitive. I'm not the sensitive one. Fowler had told ESPN (h/t USA Today): It's huge. Especially anytime you're not able to see family, it's unfortunate. This is personal for Fowler because his wife was born in Iran, which is one of the seven countries named in Trump's executive order. What's more, Saxon noted Fowler's sister-in-law delayed her return fr...

Yadier Molina, Cardinals Reportedly Discuss Contract Extension

The St. Louis Cardinals and catcher Yadier Molina are reportedly engaged in preliminary talks regarding a contract extension.   According to FanRag Sports' Jon Heyman, the two sides are considering the start of the season an unofficial deadline to reach an agreement.  Obviously Yadier’s been in the organization a long time and we’ve had a relationship going back years with Melvin [Roman, Molina's agent], Cardinals general manager John Mozeliak said, per Heyman. And if there’s hope to do something mutually beneficial before the season, we will try to do that. Mozeliak also cautioned that talks at this stage in spring training are very preliminary.   Now 34 years old, Molina has showed few signs of slowing down as he's entered what figured to be the twilight of his career.  In 581 plate appearances last season, Molina posted a .307/.

Alex Reyes Injury Instantly Shakes Up the 2017 NL Wild-Card Picture

Feb 17 7:00am Bleacher Report - St Louis Cardinals
Alex Reyes didn’t throw a major league pitch until August. He didn’t start a game the St. Louis Cardinals won until September. He still nearly carried the 2016 Cardinals into the postseason. Inserted in the rotation for the final two weeks of the season, Reyes started three games, and the Cardinals won all three. The Cardinals eventually fell a game short in the National League wild-card race, but the just-turned 22-year-old kid gave them plenty of hope heading into the winter. He was supposed to be one of the big stories of the spring and perhaps the early favorite to be the National League Rookie of the Year. He was going to help the Cardinals back to October baseball—the close miss in 2016 followed five straight playoff seasons—and maybe he could even help them dethrone the rival Chicago Cubs. Now, it won’t happen. The part about the Cardinals getting bac...
