Stephen Piscotty Placed on 10-Day DL with Hamstring Injury

May 5 12:39pm Bleacher Report - St Louis Cardinals
The St. Louis Cardinals placed outfielder Stephen Piscotty on the 10-day disabled list Friday due to a right hamstring strain, the team announced.  To take his place on the roster, the Cards recalled outfielder Tommy Pham from Triple-A. The 26-year-old Piscotty exited Thursday's 5-4 loss to the Milwaukee Brewers in the second inning when he came up injured after grounding out. Per David Wilhelm of the Belleville News-Democrat, Piscotty wasn't overly concerned about his injury following the game:  I had an MRI and I had a very, very mild muscle spasm. It's good news. I'll be evaluated in the morning and go from there. Everything is encouraging after the fact. I hadn't felt anything like that in a while, so it kind of shocked me a little bit. There is some tightening in it, but there's no damage. Walking around now, it's decent. It's a little sore. It's going to be a pain-tolerance thing. Early struggles have been the story of the season for Piscotty, who has been working on fixing his swing. “There are certain adjustments that are going to take some time because I’m not used to operating it the way I have been,” Piscotty told reporters. “If you think about the tens of thousands of times I’ve hit a baseball, I’ve been lunging forward and now I’m back, so my contact point is off. I need a little recalibrating, is how I would describe it.” Piscotty missed two games in April after being hit in the head and obviously struggled to regain his form after coming back. These injuries are unrelated, but it's a disappointing start for a guy the Cardinals looked at as a building block.  Piscotty is hitting .241 with two home runs and 11 RBI for St. Louis so far this season. The Cardinals already had depth concerns in the outfield prior to Piscotty's injury, but Dexter Fowler left Thursday's game as well. With Piscotty on the shelf, Pham figures to get plenty of playing time, while Matt Adams may once again see action in the outfield as well after struggling there earlier in the season.Read more St Louis Cardinals news on BleacherReport.com...

Dexter Fowler Suffers Shoulder Injury vs. Milwaukee Brewers

May 4 8:48pm Bleacher Report - St Louis Cardinals
The St. Louis Cardinals announced outfielder Dexter Fowler left Thursday's game against the Milwaukee Brewers with a shoulder strain.    This is a concerning setback for Fowler, especially since he went on the disabled list last year with a hamstring injury and played just 125 games. He entered Thursday's contest slashing .218/.298/.386 with four home runs in his first season with the Cardinals. Fowler made his first All-Star Game last season and helped the Chicago Cubs win the World Series with a slash line of .276/.393/.447 and 13 home runs. The Cardinals signed him with the hope he could serve as a defensive anchor in center field and jump-start the lineup with his combination of timely hitting, power and speed.     They will have to turn elsewhere until Fowler returns and could move Randal Grichuk from left to center. That would leave Jose Martinez and Matt Adams as candidates to play left field. Those players can keep the Cardinals afloat in the short term, but Fowler is one reason they are playoff contenders this season in a difficult National League Central that includes the Cubs and Pittsburgh Pirates. St. Louis needs him back and healthy to fulfill its potential in 2017.Read more St Louis Cardinals news on BleacherReport.com...

Woman Grazed By Stray Bullet During Cardinals Game

May 3 12:55pm Bleacher Report - St Louis Cardinals
A female fan watching Tuesday night's game between the St. Louis Cardinals and Milwaukee Brewers at Busch Stadium was grazed on the arm by a stray bullet.  The Cardinals released a statement on the incident on Wednesday, per Mike Axisa of CBS Sports: We are aware of an incident last night in which a fan reported being struck by a stray bullet that presumably originated from outside of the stadium. The fan was treated for an abrasion and a bruise on her arm at First Aid and released. She was interviewed by police who are investigating the matter. There is nothing more important than the safety of our fans, and the Cardinals are grateful that no one was seriously injured. We will be sharing more information with the media as further details emerge. On Wednesday, Christine Byers of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported police sources said a call was received for shots fired near the stadium around the same time as the incident. The victim was treated for minor injuries inside the stadium. Police sources also told Byers the call for shots fired came less than a mile from Busch Stadium. So the bullet could have come from an individual firing into the air, but that theory hasn't been confirmed. No further information about the situation, including where the woman was sitting and the exact nature of her injuries, was immediately released. Neither the St. Louis Police Department nor the Cardinals provided an official statement as of early Wednesday afternoon. The Cardinals scored a 2-1 victory Tuesday to level their overall record at 13-13. The Brewers fell to 14-14 with the loss against their NL Central rivals. St. Louis and Milwaukee have two games left in their current series. Next up is a game Wednesday night before the four-game set concludes Thursday afternoon.Read more St Louis Cardinals news on BleacherReport.com...
