Top Vermont Colleges and Universities

Sure it's a small state, but Vermont has some excellent options for higher education. My top six picks for Vermont range from little Marlboro College with under 400 students to the University of Vermont with over 13,000 students. My top picks represent a wide range of personalities and missions. The list includes a Catholic college, a public institution, and several private liberal arts colleges. You'll find that the admissions standards for these six schools vary widely, so be sure to click through to the profiles for more admissions information. The schools were chosen based on first-year retention rates, four- and six-year graduation rates, notable academic strengths, value, and student engagement. See my list of the top Vermont colleges to find out who made the cut.

To get a partial sense of what it takes to get into some of Vermont's four-year colleges and universities, I've created side-by-side comparison charts of Vermont SAT scores and Vermont ACT scores for the middle 50\% of matriculated students. You'll see that a couple of my top picks have test-optional admissions.
If there's another Vermont college that you think deserves to be on the list, use the comment link below to share your recommendations. I'm a firm believer that the "best" college for your interests, goals and personality may have little to do with my own selection criteria.
