Yellen Speech Canceled as White House Weighs Fed Pick

The Economic Club of New York has canceled a coming speech by Fed Vice Chairwoman Janet Yellen as the White House moves closer to selecting a new head of the central bank.
The group said Friday that the Oct. 1 speech by Ms. Yellen had been called off but gave no reason.
Ms. Yellen is a leading candidate to succeed Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke, whose current term ends in January. The White House has said President Barack Obama would announce his decision this fall.
Obama administration officials have been reaching out to lawmakers over the past week to gauge her support after another leading contender, former White House economic adviser Lawrence Summers, dropped out of the contest Sunday.Continue reading this article »
